Origin and history

The Hotel de la Rochette, located 26 Place aux Herbes in Uzès, is a private hotel built in the middle of the eighteenth century. Its architecture, although with a homogeneous façade dated 1756, is the result of a series of successive enlargements and clusterings. These transformations made it possible to form a prestigious real estate complex, as Sylvie Bellanger's study in the framework of her master's degree, which traces the owners' strategy to unify several pre-existing houses.

The hotel has belonged to the same family since 1756, year which also marks the realization of its current facade. Despite its unified appearance, the building hides a complex history of structural changes and land acquisitions in a prime location in the heart of Uzès. These developments reflect the social and economic ambitions of the owners, anxious to create a residence commensurate with their status.

Ranked as a Historical Monument by order of 29 December 2015, the Hôtel de la Rochette enjoys protection on its facades, roofs, as well as on certain interior parts such as the wing between the square and the courtyard and the stables to the north. This official recognition underlines its heritage and architectural importance in the urban landscape of Uzès, a city marked by a rich historical past in Occitanie.
