Origin and history
The Hotel de la Tramerie, located at 132 rue des Foulons in Douai, is an emblematic monument of the seventeenth century, representative of the civil architecture of this period. Its building combines brick and stone facades, characteristic of urban constructions in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region (now Hauts-de-France). The hotel has been partially classified and listed as Historic Monuments since the 1930s, demonstrating its heritage importance.
The protection of the Hotel de la Tramerie was formalized in two stages: a decreed inscription on 25 August 1931 for the whole building (except for the parts already classified), followed by a classification on 19 September 1932 for its street façade, its front on courtyard and its roofs. These measures reflect the historical and aesthetic value of its architectural elements, typical of the seventeenth century. Today, the monument belongs to the municipality of Douai, although its current use (visits, rental, etc.) is not specified in the available sources.
The location of the hotel, in the city centre of Douai, is located in a historical area marked by artisanal and commercial activities, as evidenced by the name of rue des Foulons, linked to textile work. This type of private hotel was often associated with bourgeois families or local notables, playing a role in the social and economic life of the city. The geographical data available place the monument with an accuracy deemed "a priori satisfactory" (note 7/10), confirming its anchoring in the urban fabric of Douai.
