Origin and history

Hotel de la Villeon is an iconic mansion located at 2 rue Davity in Tournon-sur-Rhône, in the department of Ardèche, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built during the first quarter of the eighteenth century, it is a typical example of the civil architecture of this period, with decorative and structural elements characteristic of the period.

The building was listed as a historic monument in 1982, recognizing its heritage value. Its 17th century front door had already been protected by a separate inscription in 1927, highlighting its historical and artistic importance. However, this door was stolen on September 11, 2013, while the hotel was being renovated to become a luxury hotel.

The protected elements of the hotel include facades and roofs, two terraces with three fountains, a wrought iron staircase, and several interior rooms with their original décor. These features illustrate the prestige and refinement associated with this type of aristocratic residence in the 18th century. The hotel is also referenced in the Mérimée base, which confirms its status as a recognized historical monument.

The precise location of the hotel, at the crossing of Davity Street and Gourgouillon Street, as well as its Insee code (07324) and its belonging to the municipality of Tournon-sur-Rhône, make it a major point of interest in the architectural heritage of the Ardèche. Despite the theft of its historic door, the hotel remains an important testimony to the local history and urban evolution of the region.
