Origin and history

The Hotel de Lassus, located in Montréjeau in the Occitanie region, was built in 1760 for Marc-Bertrand de Lassus-Nestier, adviser to the Toulouse parliament. This urban monument adopts a U-shaped plan, organized around courtyards and a garden, with outbuildings. Originally, its interior decor was rich, but the French Revolution led to the destruction of most elements, with the exception of the large staircase, the only vestige of the eighteenth century still visible today. Major transformations took place at the end of the 19th century, with the addition of an additional floor, partially altering its original appearance.

The hotel has been listed as a Historic Monument since 2005, protecting its facades, roofs, monumental portals (rue du Barry and rue du Parc), as well as remarkable interior elements. These include the large staircase and its distribution galleries, an Empire dining room on the first floor, an Empire living room and library on the ground floor, and a large column room. These spaces reflect the architectural evolutions and tastes of the Toulouse elites between the 18th and 19th centuries. The ensemble now belongs to the commune of Montréjeau, although its current use (visits, rental, guest rooms) is not specified in the sources.

The location of the Hotel de Lassus is documented at two nearby addresses: 6 rue du Barry (base Mérimée) and 8 rue du Parc ( GPS coordinates), reflecting a geographical accuracy deemed "a priori satisfactory" (note 6/10). This monument illustrates the civil architecture of the provincial elites under the Old Regime, while bearing the traces of revolutionary upheavals and subsequent adaptations. Its monumental portal and Empire interior decorations make it a representative example of Occitan heritage, between classical heritage and post-revolutionary influences.
