Origin and history
The Hotel de Linage, located in Beaucaire in the Gard, is a historical monument which began construction in 1728 under the direction of architect Jean-Baptiste Franque. The original project is limited to the western building body, characterized by a symmetrical facade organized around a doric portal and curved bays decorated with carved staples. The arcades on the ground floor of the courtyard take over this architectural party, creating a harmony between the exterior and interior spaces.
A second housing body is added to the east, complementing the original structure. Inside, the hotel preserves remarkable decorative elements, such as the ironing of the large staircase, the gypseries and the solar ceiling of the dining room, as well as the gypseries of a living room. These details bear witness to the artistic refinement of the period and the importance attached to ornamentation in the 18th century aristocratic homes.
Ranked Historic Monument by order of 23 August 2005, the hotel is today a private property. Its official address, 2 rue Baudin, corresponds to the data of the Merimée database, and its location is considered "a priori satisfactory". The building illustrates the architectural evolution of private hotels in Languedoc-Roussillon (now Occitanie) during the first half of the 18th century, a period marked by the influence of French classic models.
