Origin and history
The Malras hotel was a mansion built in Aurillac (Cantal), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, during the seventeenth century. In a flamboyant ogival style, he was demolished after giving up his Gothic portal to the new town hall. This portal, the only vestige of the building, was reused as the main entrance to the current town hall. The carpentry would also date from this period, depending on available sources.
The Hotel de Malras has been partially listed as historical monuments since 19 March 1982, a protection that specifically concerns its portal. The latter, formerly located at 16 rue de Lacoste, had already been registered by order of 30 April 1946, before its transfer. Today, the portal and five paintings of the Illustration Gallery (portraits of local personalities like Guy de Veyre or General d'Estaing) are the only remaining elements listed in the heritage bases.
The monument, owned by the municipality of Aurillac, is located in Place de l'Hôtel-de-Ville, although its historic address (16 rue de Lacoste) differs from its current location. Sources indicate poor geographic accuracy (note 5/10), possibly reflecting urban transformations at the site. No information is available on its current accessibility (visits, events) or possible residential functions (guestrooms).
