Origin and history

The Hotel de Marillac, located in Aigueperse in Puy-de-Dôme, is a former mansion dating from the 16th century, emblematic of the French Renaissance. Its façade features a Renaissance window on the first floor, decorated with canned pilasters surmounted by composite capitals decorated with winged antelope. These architectural elements, combined with a cornice and pinnacles, illustrate the artistic refinement of the period.

The hotel's inner courtyard houses two chamfered arcades on the ground floor, while the staircase tower, located at the southwest corner, contains a staircase with rotating neighborhoods. The latter is remarkable for its ground doors and ramp decorated with cartridges and medallions. The exceptional quality of his sculptures makes him a unique example of Renaissance civil architecture in Aigueperse.

Listed as a Historic Monument, the Hotel de Marillac saw its Renaissance window and stair turret protected by a decree of 2 May 1963. These elements, bearing witness to Renaissance art, underline the heritage importance of this building in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
