Origin and history

Mazan Hotel is an iconic building located in the town of Riez, in the heart of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Built mainly during the 1st quarter of the 16th century, it also underwent transformations in the 17th and 18th centuries, reflecting the architectural and social evolutions of these periods. This private hotel, typical of Provencal civil architecture, bears witness to the prestige of its former owners and the importance of Riez as a historic city in the region.

Ranked as historical monuments by order of 4 October 1988, the Mazan Hotel first belonged to the State (Ministry of Culture) before being transferred to the town of Riez on 1 September 2007. This transfer marks a new step in the preservation and enhancement of this local heritage. The building, including its garden, is now communal property. Its exact address, 12 or 14 Grand-Rue, confirms its anchoring in the historic centre of Riez, a place full of history since ancient times.

The protection of the Mazan hotel extends to the entire building and its garden, as specified in the 1988 classification order. This monument illustrates the evolution of lifestyles and architectural tastes in Provence between the Renaissance and the modern era. Although the sources do not explicitly mention its current use (visits, rental, accommodation), its status as a historical monument and its location make it a key element of the rice heritage, attracting the attention of those passionate about history and architecture.
