Origin and history
Hôtel de Montrieux, also known as Hôtel Bordeaux-Montrieux, is a private hotel located at 3 boulevard du Maréchal-Foch in Angers, in the department of Maine-et-Loire. Built between 1856 and 1861 for René Montrieux, a rich industrialist and mayor of Angers, this building illustrates the bourgeois and industrial architecture of the 19th century. The architect François-Athanase Mortier, originally from Paris, designed this building as well as the Buhards Castle, a rural residence in Montrieux in La Jumellière.
The Hôtel de Montrieux initially consisted of communes, abolished after 1990 to allow the construction of a residence for the elderly. Its architectural style reflects the bourgeois aesthetic of the time, with careful ornamental details. The building is a testament to local history and industrial influence in Angers.
The Hôtel de Montrieux was listed as a historical monument in 1986, and was classified in 1990. This status protects its facades, roofs, and some interior elements such as the living room, dining room, and honorary staircase. The building is now a private property, but its heritage importance makes it a major historical point of interest in the city.
