Origin and history

The Hotel de Rosier, located in Uzès in the Gard, is a mansion built in the 18th century. This monument is distinguished by its sober facade, pierced by three doors in the middle of the hanger adorned with mouldings, while the other bays, rectangular, are surmounted by many straight without decor. The interior reveals a corridor leading to a vaulted room decorated with paintings attributed to Xavier Sigalon, a local artist, who allegedly served as a private chapel. The originality of the place also resides in its three-flyed staircase, whose ironwork ramp, composed of volute balusters and C-shaped motifs, bears witness to the artisanal know-how of the period.

At the beginning of the 19th century, the building underwent renovations, although some original elements were preserved, such as the painted ceilings of the floor, decorated with beams and decorated beams. The "room of the Vertus", dedicated to the Virgin, illustrates the religious and artistic importance of the place. Ranked a Historic Monument in 2000, the hotel combines civil architecture and pictorial heritage, reflecting the taste of the Uzetan elites for the arts in the Enlightenment and Restoration.

The location of the Hotel de Rosier at 2 rue Port-Royal makes it a key part of the historic centre of Uzès, a city marked by its medieval heritage and its role as a ducal city. Although its geographical accuracy is considered mediocre (note of 5/10), the monument remains a testimony of urban transformations and local artistic practices between the 18th and 19th centuries. Its inscription in the inventory of Historic Monuments highlights its heritage value, both for its architecture and for its interior decorations, including the works of Sigalon.
