Origin and history

The Hotel de Ruat is a private hotel built in 1780 in Bordeaux, in the historic district of the city. Sponsored by François-Alain Amadieu de Ruat, Captal de Buch and parliamentarian, it was designed by architect André Portier. This monument reflects the splendour of the 18th century Bordeaux elites, with neat architecture and refined interior decorations, such as the living room woodwork and the second floor marquetry parquet.

The building is framed by two buildings in its inner courtyard, typical of the mansions of the time. Joined the Historic Monuments in 1965, it is now a private property, thus preserving its architectural and decorative heritage. The street and courtyard facades, protected by decree, testify to the historic and aesthetic importance of this place.

The Ruat hotel is part of a group of Bordeaux private hotels, often linked to influential figures in local society. His architect, André Portier, also worked on other notable buildings in the region, such as the Lecomte de Latresne hotel. These buildings illustrate Bordeaux's cultural and economic dynamism in the 18th century, marked by maritime trade and the enrichment of the bourgeoisie.
