Origin and history
The hotel of Thoron is a private hotel located in the city centre of Aix-en-Provence, in the Bouches-du-Rhône department. Built between the 17th and 18th centuries, it illustrates the civil architecture of this period, marked by the influence of local elites and Baroque and classical styles. The building is distinguished by its facades, roofs, as well as by an entrance hall and two staircases, one from the seventeenth century and the other from the eighteenth century, protected for their heritage value.
The hotel was partially registered as a historic monument on 14 December 1989. This protection applies specifically to facades, roofs, the entrance hall, the two stairs with their ramps and cages, as well as all rooms on the first floor with their decor. These elements reflect the artistic and historical importance of the site, reflecting the way of life of wealthy families in Aix-en-Provence at that time.
Located at 4 rue Matheron and at the corner of rue Loubon, the hotel of Thoron is located in an area rich in architectural heritage. Although the available sources do not specify its current use (visit, rental, accommodation), its state of conservation and its location make it a notable example of the Aix urban heritage. The accuracy of its geographical location is estimated as "passable" (level 5/10), according to Monumentum data.
