Origin and history
Hotel de Tingry is a historic monument located in Ménerbes, in the department of Vaucluse, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Built during the 4th quarter of the 17th century, it embodies the civil architecture of this period, marked by a classical style and neat decorative elements. Its facades, roofs and the floor of its court of honour, including the porch, are protected by a decree of 16 November 1989.
This building illustrates the local architectural heritage, reflecting the importance of private hotels in the urban and social organization of Provencal cities at that time. In the 17th century, Ménerbes, like many localities in Provence, was a place of residence for wealthy families or notables. Private hotels, such as the Tingry Hotel, served as both a residence and a symbol of prestige for their owners.
These buildings were often located in central streets, such as Cornille Street where this monument is located, and played a role in the social and economic life of the community. Their architecture, combining elegance and functionality, bears witness to the stylistic influences of the time, mixing local tradition and national trends.
