Origin and history
The Hotel de Vendeuil, located in Excideeuil in the Dordogne, is a historical monument whose main façade dates back to the 18th century. The latter is distinguished by a terrace resting on an entablement, framed by four flat pilasters surmounted by curved capitals decorated with bay garlands. The rounded cochère door, decorated with a fish scale pattern and a large shell, as well as the woodwork and the period bumper, testify to the architectural refinement of this period.
The house body located at the back of the facade was partially collapsed, but the protected elements, including the façade, were inscribed under the title of the Historical Monuments by order of 27 September 1948. The exterior decoration, with its sculpted details and harmonious proportions, reflects the influence of classical and rock styles that marked 18th-century civil architecture in Aquitaine.
The precise address of the Hotel de Vendeuil, according to the Mérimée base, is the rue Jean-Jaurès in Excideuil, in the Dordogne department (code Insee 24164). Although GPS location is considered satisfactory (note 7/10), practical information about opening to the public, visiting or any services such as guest rooms is not mentioned in available sources.
