Origin and history

The former castle of Clichy-sous-Bois, today town hall, was built in the 16th century by the Viscount of Puységur. Acquired in 1645 by Robert de Braagelongne, he then passed on to Count Jean-Antoine d'Avaux. Between 1796 and 1807, the architect Alexandre-Théodore Brongniart remania in a neoclassical style, adding a characteristic porch and renovating the English park with a water room. A Louis XVI style orangery, built around 1740, completes the ensemble.

The building served as a school before being bought by the municipality in 1930 from the Lindet-Girard family. Since then, it has housed the city's administrative services. The park, once private, was opened to the public after this takeover. The ensemble (castle, orangery and park) has been listed in the Historic Monuments since 1972, protecting its facades, roofs and landscape developments.

Architecturally, the castle consists of a two-storey rectangular house body, flanked by two short wings and a south pavilion. The orangery, still standing, bears witness to the splendour of the eighteenth century. The site illustrates the evolution of the use of a seigneurial estate, transformed into public equipment in the 20th century.
