Origin and history

The Town Hall of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume is an iconic 18th-century building located in the city centre. This building, still in operation today, embodies the civil architecture of its time and the growing administrative role of the municipalities under the Old Regime. Its location in the heart of the city reflects its importance as a place of power and decision for the local population.

Ranked Historic Monument by decree of 2 November 1951, the Town Hall sees its main facade and corresponding roof protected as historical monuments. The other facades and roofs, with the exception of those already classified, benefit from an inscription on the same date. These protective measures highlight the historic and architectural value of the building.

The property of the Town Hall belongs to the commune of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume, located in the Var department (region Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur). Although the sources do not specify its current use in detail, this type of monument traditionally served as a meeting place for elected officials, municipal administration and sometimes public space for residents. Its exact address, 5499 Rue de l'Hôtel de Ville, confirms its anchoring in the local urban fabric.
