Origin and history

The Town Hall of Salins-les-Bains is a civil building built during the first half of the eighteenth century. Located in the municipality of Salins-les-Bains, in the Jura department (39), it is part of the architectural heritage of the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region. This building, owned by the commune, is partially protected: some elements have been registered since 1927, while the main body has been classified since 1931.

The construction of this town hall reflects the administrative and social importance of Salins-les-Bains at that time. Thermal cities such as Salins-les-Bains, known for their saline sources, played a significant economic and political role in their region. Town halls of this period often served as a decision-making place for local affairs, while symbolizing municipal power.

The successive protections (registration in 1927 and classification in 1931) highlight the heritage value of this monument. The classified parts specifically exclude posterior extensions, suggesting a desire to preserve the original state of the main building. Today, there remains an architectural and historical testimony of the first half of the eighteenth century in the Jura.
