Origin and history

The city hall of Soissons, built between 1774 and 1776, is originally the former hotel of the Intense of the generality of Soissons. Designed by architect Jean-François Advyné, it is distinguished by its U-shaped plan and archaic architectural style compared to other contemporary buildings. Its stone architecture and interior elements, such as vaults or marble decorations, reflect the aesthetic codes of the era.

The building has been listed as historic monuments since 26 January 2007. This protection covers not only facades and roofs, but also remarkable interior elements: the dining room with its lead vases, the large living room, the monumental staircase, or the vaulted cellars. These features are a major architectural and historical testimony to the region.

Originally owned by the Stewardship, the building is now managed by the municipality of Soissons. His history was linked to the royal administration before the Revolution and then to municipal life after 1789. The back parcel, including a garden and fence walls, completes the protected whole, highlighting its heritage importance.
