Origin and history
The Town Hall of Tarascon is an emblematic monument of the seventeenth century, located Place du Marché in the town of Tarascon (Bouches-du-Rhône). It embodies the civil architecture of this period, marked by a desire to represent municipal power. The building, partially protected, illustrates the urban and administrative evolution of the region under the former regime.
Ranked as a Historic Monument, the Town Hall was the subject of two separate protective measures: an inscription in 1926 covering the entire building (with the exception of parts already classified), and a classification in 1976 for its facades, roofs and baluster staircase. These protections underline the heritage value of its architectural elements, typical of the 17th century Provencal civil achievements.
The location of the Town Hall, in the heart of Tarascon, reflects its central role in community life. At that time, town halls served as a place of political decision, justice and assembly for the inhabitants. Their construction often met a need to modernize local institutions, in a context where the Provencal cities were experiencing economic and cultural growth.
Available data indicate that the building is owned and still in use, although its accessibility to the public (visits, rentals) is not specified. His official address, Place du Marché, and his code Insee (13108) clearly place him in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône, attached to the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
