Origin and history
The Hotel de Vinols d'Ineyre is a mansion built in the 17th century on a square in the village of Craponne-sur-Arzon, Haute-Loire. This monument illustrates the classical architecture of the noble residences of the period, with a marked decorative sobriety, with the exception of its entrance door. Its location in the historic centre of the village reflects the social status of its owners, probably from the local nobility or the wealthy bourgeoisie.
At the beginning of the 19th century, a living room on the first floor was embellished with a series of panoramic wallpapers entitled "Views of Switzerland", produced by the Zuber manufacture since 1804. This decor, inspired by the drawings of the painter Mongin, blends picturesque landscapes, monuments and characters in a romantic and rosseauist style. It reflects the enthusiasm of the time for idealized representations of nature, while integrating architectural and human elements.
The facades, the roofs, and the living room with its woodwork and wallpapers were listed as historical monuments by order of 7 December 1992. This protection highlights both the architectural integrity of the 17th century and subsequent decorative additions, highlighting the historic duality of the site. The precise address, 7 rue Sainte-Marie, confirms its anchoring in the medieval and modern urban fabric of Craponne-sur-Arzon.
Although there are no outstanding decorative elements outside its door and lounge, the Vinols Hotel in Ineyre embodies the noble residential heritage of the Haute-Loire. Its history reflects the evolution of artistic tastes, from the sober 17th century classicism to the romantic exuberance of the 19th century, while remaining a silent witness to provincial life under the Old Regime and beyond.
