Origin and history
Hotel Degland de Cessia is a private hotel located in Saint-Amour, in the Jura department (39), in Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Built in the 3rd quarter of the 18th century, it illustrates the refined civil architecture of this period, with decorative elements typical of the Louis XV style. The building is distinguished by its precise location at 23 rue Réclosière and 12 rue Lamartine, in a preserved urban environment.
Ranked Historic Monument by order of 17 June 1992, the hotel protects several remarkable elements: its facades and roofs, an interior staircase, as well as dated interior decorations, including a 1763 fireplace plate and decorated marble fireplaces. These vestiges testify to the opulence of bourgeois residences of the time, mixing functionality and aesthetics. Legal protections also cover remains of an anterior chimney, revealing traces of an older building in the basement.
The building is part of the local heritage of Jura, an area marked in the 18th century by a rural and artisanal economy, where private hotels like this reflected the social status of their owners. Although the archives do not explicitly mention its original use, its preservation and inscription underline its historical and architectural importance. Today, its state of location is considered satisfactory (note 7/10), and it could potentially host visits or events, although this information is not confirmed by available sources.
