Facades and roofs; wooden galleries; cellar with its access staircase (cad. AE 121): registration by order of 15 October 1974

Origin and history

The Hotel House of the Angle of Gold, located in Amiens in the department of the Somme, is a monument whose origins date back to the thirteenth century, with major transformations in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Its architecture thus blends medieval elements, such as its vaulted cellar and access staircase, with classical additions such as wooden galleries and facades, now protected under the title of Historic Monuments. The registration by decree of 15 October 1974 specifically concerns these elements, emphasizing their heritage value.

The building, located 18 Place Notre-Dame (or 32 according to GPS sources), embodies the evolution of urban hotels, places of hospitality and essential commerce in medieval and modern cities. In Amiens, a prosperous trading and religious city in the Middle Ages, these establishments played a key role in the accommodation of pilgrims, travellers and traders. The cellar with its staircase, typical of the 13th century buildings, bears witness to the techniques of storage and conservation of the period, while the subsequent developments reflect the adaptation to the needs of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Today, the Hôtellerie de l'Angle d'Or remains a remarkable example of the Amienese heritage, combining three centuries of architectural history. Its state of conservation and its central location, near Notre Dame Cathedral, make it a privileged witness to the urbanization and economic activities of the region. Legal protections (façades, roofs, galleries) guarantee the preservation of its most emblematic features, although its access to the public or its current uses (visit, rental, accommodation) are not specified in the available sources.
