Origin and history
The Denis-Dupont hotel, located at 2 rue Saint-Honoré in Blois (Loir-et-Cher), is an emblematic mansion of the French Renaissance. Built in the early 16th century, it belonged to Denis Dupont, lawyer and editor of Blois' custom. Its architecture, marked by carved facades and a monumental staircase, is directly inspired by the François I wing of the Château de Blois, reflecting the artistic influence of this period.
Ranked a historic monument since 1931, the building is protected for its courtyard façades, staircase and roofs, as well as its original carpentry. The interior courtyard, preserved despite subsequent transformations (such as the suppression of an alley in the 19th century), houses decorative elements combining Christian symbols, animals and Renaissance motifs. These details attest to the artistic richness of the time.
Although privately owned, the Denis-Dupont Hotel illustrates the importance of private architectural heritage in the urban fabric of Blois. Its history includes repairs in the 18th century (woodworks, chimneys) and modifications in the 19th century, but its Renaissance heart remains intact. Neighbor of the Hotel d'Alluye, he participates in the valorisation of Haut-Bourg, the historic district of the city.
