Origin and history
Hotel des Rats, also known as Hotel d'Arras, is an emblematic monument to the city of Compiègne, in the Oise department. Built during the 4th quarter of the 16th century, this building illustrates the civil architecture of the French Renaissance. It is distinguished by its facades and roofs, protected since their inscription as historical monuments by order of 22 August 1949.
The hotel belonged to the widow of Hierosme Le Caron, Lord of Brissocourt, who held the office of a lawyer in parliament and a provost of Compiègne. This character, linked to the judicial and local administration, reflects the social and political importance of the owners of this type of residence in modern times. The building, located at 5 rue Saint-Antoine, bears witness to the city's preserved architectural heritage.
The protection of the Hotel des Rats extends to facades and roofs overlooking the street and courtyard, highlighting the heritage value of these elements. Although the sources do not specify its current use, its inscription among historical monuments makes it a place of interest for the study of urban planning and local history of Compiègne and the Hauts-de-France region.
