Origin and history

Hotel Juvenal des Ursins is a 16th century mansion located in Troyes, rue Champeaux. Built by the Jovenel des Ursins family after the great fire of 1524, it is built in white limestone. The façade bears the arms of France, surmounted by a crown and surrounded by a cordon de Saint-Michel. A three-sided oriel, with fried ogival windows, adorns the facade, while a 1688 cartridge indicates that the house was rebuilt in 1526 after burning in 1520. Under the dome, an unarmed love is visible, and a large 15th-century Gothic skylight from an earlier building crowns the roof.

On the first floor, two rooms feature Louis XVI style woodwork and fireplaces. The hotel has been classified as a historical monument since 1932, with its facades and roofs protected by decree of 11 August 1932. The Gothic skylight, dating from the 15th century, bears witness to the earlier architectural history of the building.

Hotel des Ursins is located at 26 rue Champeaux in Troyes, in the Aube department. Today it belongs to the commune. Its architecture combines Renaissance and Gothic elements, reflecting the stylistic evolutions of the period. The Jovenel family of the Ursins, who sponsored the building, marked the local history with this emblematic reconstruction.
