Origin and history

The hotel at 14 rue Saint-Guillaume is a private hotel located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris. Built in the 18th century, it embodies the aristocratic or bourgeois residential architecture of this period, typical of the central districts of the capital. Its location, in a district in the midst of urban transformation, reflects the expansion of Paris under the Ancien Régime, marked by the construction of private hotels for the social and economic elite.

This building is known to be the birthplace of Jeanne Dauchez and André Dauchez, two early twentieth century painters. Their parents, including the famous lawyer and property administrator Fernand Dauchez, had installed their offices there, illustrating the reuse of these hotels as professional spaces over the centuries. The hotel's street gate was listed as historic monuments by order of 20 October 1928, highlighting its heritage value.

The inscription as a historical monument in 1928 reflects the desire to preserve representative architectural elements of the 18th century in Paris. Although information about its detailed architecture or original owners is scarce in available sources, its protected status makes it a witness to the urban and social history of Paris. Today, there is still an example of private hotels that still structure the landscape of the 7th arrondissement.
