Origin and history

The Hôtel du Bois de Fosseux is a monument located in Arras, in the Pas-de-Calais department, in the Hauts-de-France region. Built during the second quarter of the eighteenth century, this building is a typical example of the civil architecture of this period. It has been a part of the Historic Monuments since 1946, especially for its portal and façade on the courtyard of honour, emblematic elements of its style.

In the 18th century, Arras was a dynamic city, marked by a rising bourgeoisie and a rich cultural life. Private hotels, such as the Bois de Fosseux, reflected the social status of their owners and often served as a framework for social or administrative activities.
