Origin and history
The Hotel du Chancellor Rolin is a private hotel located on Rue des Bancs in Autun, Saône-et-Loire. Built in the 15th century, it illustrates Burgundy civil architecture of this time. Ranked a historical monument by decree of 14 July 1877, it bears witness to the preserved architectural heritage of the region.
Since 1880, the hotel has housed the headquarters of the Société éducenne des lettres, sciences et arts and the Rolin Museum, at the initiative of Jacques-Gabriel Bulliot. This dual use, both cultural and museum, reinforces its importance in the intellectual and heritage life of Autun. The building is now owned by the municipality and associated with the Musée de France Le Panoplique d'Autun.
Protected elements include the entire hotel, highlighting its historical and architectural value. Its precise location, at 8 bis rue des Bancs, is referenced in the Mérimée base under the code Insee 71014, confirming its anchoring in the territory of Saône-et-Loire and the Burgundy-Franche-Comté region.
