Origin and history

The hotel of Puy-Montbrun is a mansion located in Montélimar, in the Drôme department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Built at the end of the seventeenth century, it was completed in 1706, making it a representative example of the civil architecture of the early eighteenth century. Its plan and facades reflect the stylistic influences of this period, marked by a transition between classicism and the first fruits of the rococo style.

In the 19th century, a building body was added to the courtyard façade, partially changing its original appearance. The hotel is registered as a historical monument by order of 31 July 1989, thus recognizing its heritage value. Today, it is located at 6 Place Emile-Loubet, although sources also mention an approximate address at 1 Rue Général Chareton.

This type of private hotel bears witness to the way of life of local elites under the Old Regime, where these urban residences served as both a place of residence and a social representation. Montélimar, a strategic city between north and south of France, saw the development of a bourgeoisie and a nobility attached to prestigious constructions, symbolizing their status and economic power.
