Origin and history

Hotel du Roi-de-Poland is a mansion located in Angers, Maine-et-Loire department, Pays de la Loire region. Built in the 16th and 17th centuries, it embodies the civil architecture of this period, with a frame dated around 1561 thanks to a dendrochronological analysis. Its current name, which appeared in the mid-19th century, replaces an earlier name designating nearby inns at numbers 23 and 25 of the wharf.

Ranked as historical monuments by order of 23 June 1922, the building was acquired by the City of Angers in 1963. Two major restoration campaigns took place: the first in the 1960s, the second in 1986, to install the Angers Accueil service. Today, there remains a remarkable example of the Angelin urban heritage, combining local history and contemporary functions.

The name "King of Poland" evokes a toponymic heritage linked to the reception of travellers, although its exact origin remains unclear. The sources also mention its precise location at the 9th wharf of the King of Poland, as well as its status as communal property. The protected elements include the entire hotel, as defined in the cadastre (parks B 78 and 83).
