Origin and history
The Hotel called Maison de l'Arbalète is a private hotel located in the Old Towers, at 6-8 rue de l'Arbalète. Although its name evokes the 15th century, its current structure incorporates elements from the 13th, 15th and 16th centuries, including a 13th century vaulted hall and Renaissance first-style bays. This monument, partially demolished, was inscribed as historical monuments in 1939 for its north, east and south facades, as well as for its vaulted hall and its underlying cellars.
The main hall on the ground floor, divided into four spans, had arches on d-crosses resting on a cylindrical central column and semi-octogonal piles. Two floors of vaulted cellars were superimposed under this room. The ensemble reflected a medieval architecture redesigned during the Renaissance, with pilasters typical of this period. The site is now located in the preserved area of Tours, classified in 1983.
Available sources, including Monumentum and Wikipedia, highlight its heritage importance despite its partial demolition. The protected elements include facades, vaulted hall and cellars, while the official address (6-8 rue de l'Arbalète) and its Insee code (37261) confirm its anchoring in the Indre-et-Loire department, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. No information is available on its current use (visit, rental, etc.).
