Origin and history

The Dyel des Hameaux hotel is a mansion built around 1630 for Antoine de Rochebaron, located in 13 Place des Vosges, in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. It is distinguished by its classic architecture and its prestigious location on Place des Vosges, between Pierrard and Marchand hotels. Its facades and roofs, as well as its vaulted gallery, have been protected as historical monuments since the 1920s and 1950s.

The hotel belonged to Duke Louis de Rohan-Chabot from 1680, remaining in Rohan's family until 1764, when it was sold to François Prévost. He owes his name to Jean Dyel, lord of the Hameaux. More recently, it was acquired in 2007 by Dominique Strauss-Kahn, former IMF Director, and his wife Anne Sinclair, although their divorce in 2013 was not followed by an update of the legal status of the property.

The hotel's successive protections bear witness to its heritage value: the facades and roofs were classified in 1920, the lateral wings and their wrought iron stairs were inscribed in 1955, and the arched gallery was classified in 1956. These elements underline the architectural and historical importance of this Parisian monument, emblematic of the urbanisation of the Marais.

Today, the Dyel des Hameaux Hotel remains a remarkable example of the aristocratic Parisian habitat of the 17th and 18th centuries. Its history reflects the changes in property among the French elite, as well as its adaptation to contemporary uses, while maintaining its status as a protected monument.

Future

It was in 2007 that the former socialist finance minister, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, and his wife, Anne Sinclair, bought this residence.
