Origin and history

Hotel Feydeau de Montholon is a Parisian mansion located at 35 quai des Grands-Augustins and 2 rue Séguier, in the 6th arrondissement. This monument illustrates the civil architecture of the early eighteenth century, typical of the aristocratic residences of the period, with remarkable facades and roofs that justified its classification as historical monuments.

Originally, this building was the residence of François-de-Paule Feydeau (1676-1710), seigneur and councillor at the Paris Parliament, and his wife Catherine-Gabrielle de Montholon. Their name marked the history of the place, combining their lineage with this architectural heritage. The hotel then welcomed intellectual figures, such as the mathematician Pierre-Simon de Laplace (1749-1827), reflecting his role in Parisian cultural life.

In the 19th century, the hotel also housed the famous Didot bookshop, known as The Golden Bible, highlighting its anchor in book and publishing history. Since 1969, its facades and roofs on street and courtyard have been protected, demonstrating their heritage value. The dual protection (classification and registration) highlights both its architectural interest and its importance in the urban landscape of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés district.
