Facades and roofs (AH 176): classification by decree of 17 June 1975

Origin and history

Hotel Fousteau-Dutertre is a private hotel located in Mortagne-au-Perche, Orne department, Normandy. Built in the 18th century, it is distinguished by its typical architecture of this time, with a broken roof and a facade with corners underlined by stone-cutting. Two carved bands separate the floors, and the original carpentries are still present.

The monument is located at 22 rue Sainte-Croix, 250 metres south of Notre-Dame Church. Its facades and roofs were classified as historical monuments by order of 17 June 1975, thereby recognizing their heritage value. The hotel is representative of the small aristocratic or bourgeois residences of the region.

Architectural details, such as flat pilasters framed by central openings and carved bands, illustrate the sober yet elegant 18th century style. Although the information on its precise history is limited, its ranking shows its importance in the local heritage. The precise location, confirmed by the Merimée base, makes it a notable part of the city centre of Mortagne-au-Perche.
