Origin and history
The Hôtel de Créqui is a building certified from 1680 on the map of Caron, in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. From this period there remains a staircase with four nuclei and wooden balusters, located in the building on street. The building underwent major changes in the 18th century, including the addition of a courtyard wing with a iron staircase, as well as the construction of an extension building at the end of the same century. These developments reflect architectural evolution and the tastes of the era, combining 17th century heritage and 18th century innovations.
In 1970, the whole was in a state of advanced degradation, requiring further restoration to preserve its remarkable elements. The facades and roofs (on street, courtyard and garden), as well as the interior staircase with its wrought iron ramp, were protected by an inscription under the title of Historical Monuments on 25 October 1972. This protective stop however excludes a modern building located in the courtyard. The hotel, now owned by a private company, illustrates the civil architectural heritage of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, marked by successive renovations.
The location of the Hôtel de Créqui, 10-12 rue de Paris, makes it a central element of the city's historic urban fabric. Its 17th-century wooden staircase and 18th-century ironwork bear witness to the craft techniques of different eras. Although the sources do not specify its current use (visits, rentals, guest rooms), its inscription among the Historical Monuments underlines its heritage importance in the Yvelines and in Île-de-France.
