Origin and history

The hotel is a private hotel located in Tours, in the historical district of Old Tours, at 17 Place Foire-le-Roi. This monument illustrates two distinct epochs: the 15th century, where it preserves vaulted cellars in a full-cindered cradle and a western gable marked by the traces of the 16th century religious wars, and the 18th century, when it was rebuilt in a classical style. The projectiles still visible on the gable testify to the religious conflicts that have shaken the region.

The current hotel consists of two perpendicular wings, organized around a courtyard, with one wing to the north and one to the west. Inside, a staircase with a wrought iron ramp, typical of the eighteenth century, was preserved. The east and south facades, the west gable, the roofs, as well as the cellars and stairs, have been protected as historical monuments since a decree of 8 July 1946.

This building thus embodies the superposition of the epochs, mixing medieval defensive elements with an elegant residential structure of the Enlightenment. Its inscription among historical monuments underlines its heritage importance, both for its architecture and for its role as a witness to the past upheavals of the city of Tours.
