Origin and history
Hotel Laffemas is an iconic mansion from the beginning of the seventeenth century, located at 22 Place des Vosges, in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. It occupies a strategic position on the east side of the square, north of the Hotel d'Angennes de Rambouillet, and is bordered to the north by the street of Pas-de-la-Mule. Its architecture reflects the emerging classical style of this period, typical of Parisian private hotels of the time.
The hotel's facades and roofs were classified as historic monuments in 1920, recognizing their early heritage value. In 1955, this classification was extended to specific elements such as the gallery on the square, the vantals of the front door, as well as the roofing of the buildings overlooking the square and the street of the Pas-de-la-Mule. These successive protections underline the architectural and historical importance of this building.
Place des Vosges, where the Laffemas hotel is located, is one of the oldest and most prestigious squares in Paris. Built in the early seventeenth century under Henry IV, it embodies the royal urbanism and aristocratic elegance of that time. The Laffemas hotel, with its location and history, is fully part of this exceptional architectural setting, reflecting the fascination of the private residences of the modern era.
