Origin and history

Hotel Le Vavasseur is a private hotel built in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, at 21 rue Boissière. This building illustrates the bourgeois architecture of the late 19th century, a period marked by the rise of large private hotels in Parisian residential areas. Its style reflects the tastes of the aristocracy and the upper bourgeoisie of the period, with particular attention to facades and interior spaces.

The hotel was built for Baroness Le Vavasseur, a member of the Parisian social elite. This type of residence was then a symbol of prestige, often designed to accommodate receptions and highlight the status of its owners. Private hotels in the 16th arrondissement, like this one, were part of a planned urban planning, combining modern comfort and architectural tradition.

Since 9 June 1977, the Hotel Le Vavasseur has been granted protection for historical monuments. This inscription specifically concerns its facades and roofs, both on street and on courtyard and garden. The architect or contractor identified is Sanson, although little detailed information on his contribution is available. The building remains a testament to the urban and social history of Paris at the end of the 19th century.
