Origin and history
Hotel Maillard is a mansion built at the end of the 19th century, more precisely in the 4th quarter of this century. It is located at 3 rue Jahard, in Château-du-Loir, a municipality now integrated in Montval-sur-Loir, in the department of Sarthe (region Pays de la Loire). This building was commissioned by Émile Maillard, a local tanner master, reflecting the economic prosperity associated with the artisanal and industrial activities of the time in this region.
The interior decorations of the Hotel Maillard were designed in 1896 by the Parisian architect L. Duchamp. He collaborated with artists who had also worked at the Paris Opera, which gave the building a remarkable artistic quality. These decorative elements, combined with the hotel's architecture, illustrate the taste for eclecticism and the luxury characteristic of the bourgeois residences of the late 19th century.
The Hotel Maillard was registered as a historical monument by order of 23 December 1997. This protection recognizes the heritage value of the building, both for its architecture and its interior decor. The building, identified under the cadastral reference AR 108, is a testimony to the industrial and social history of Château-du-Loir, as well as to the influence of Parisian artistic currents in the province at this time.
