Origin and history

Hotel Maledent de Savignac de Feytiat is a private hotel located in the heart of Limoges, in the historic area of the Château, at 6 rue Haute-de-la-Comédie. Dated precisely from 1632, it illustrates the civil architecture of the first quarter of the seventeenth century. Its main entrance, adorned with a full hanger door framed with Corinthian columns and surmounted by a triangular pediment, gives access to an inner courtyard. To the left of this courtyard, two arches in basket coves rest on doric columns, while the house body has granite openings separated by shingles. The upper floors are distinguished by bays surmounted by volute pediments, also in granite.

The building was inscribed in the historic monuments on 16 September 1949, a protection specifically covering its facades (on street and courtyard), the fireplace of the large living room and cellars. Today, it hosts one of the three sites of the Regional Directorate of Cultural Affairs (DRAC) in New Aquitaine. Its architecture, combining classical elements such as Corinthian and Doric columns with regional granite details, reflects both the influence of national artistic currents and the local characteristics of Haute-Vienne.

The location of the hotel, in a central historical district, highlights its importance in the urban heritage of Limoges. The architectural descriptions available highlight the quality of the materials used, including granite, and the rigorous composition of the facades. Partial listing as historic monuments reflects the recognized heritage value of some of its elements, although the entire building is not protected. The accuracy of dating (1632) and the preservation of original details, such as frontons or arcades, make it a remarkable example of the limougeaud aristocratic habitat of the 17th century.
