Origin and history

The Hotel de Pierre Comere is a private hotel located between 3 rue Saint-Rome and 9 rue Tripière, in the historic centre of Toulouse. Built between 1616 and 1617 for Pierre Comere, merchant and capitoul, it illustrates a style of transition between the late Renaissance and baroque. The architect Claude Pacot grew in 1626. The building preserves brick and stone facades, decorated with floral motifs, diamond tips and carved frontons, typical of this period.

Before Pierre Comere, the hotel belonged to several Toulouse capitouls: Dominique de Laran (capitoul in 1579-1580), then Jean Cluzel (capitoul in 1579-1580 and 1586-1587), and finally his son Pierre (capitoul in 1614-1615). Pierre Comere bought the building in 1616 and transformed it deeply, adding a facade on Rue Saint-Rome and a carrossable portal on Rue Tripière. The hotel remained in his family until 1748, before being divided and partially sold.

The facade on Rue Saint-Rome features two low-rise shop arches, separated by a richly decorated pedestrian door (fronton cut, consoles, diamond tips). The five upper spans, spread over three levels, alternate brick and stone, with bundles decorated with floral motifs. The inner courtyard, accessible by a covered passage, is surrounded by arcades surmounted by three floors pierced with sill windows. The brick gate on Tripière Street features interrupted pediments and blackmailed cartridges.

The hotel was listed as a historical monument on 30 June 1950 (a decree published on 11 April 1950), protecting its facades, roofs, and gates. In the 19th century, wooden lampequins were added to the windows of Rue Saint-Rome. In 1975, a second portal was opened to facilitate access to vehicles. The building bears witness to 17th-century Toulouse civil architecture, combining residential, commercial (ground floor shops) and social prestige.

The sources also mention another hotel, now disappeared, built by Géraud Comere (Pierre's brother) at 27 rue des Changes. This detail highlights the influence of the Comere family in the Toulouse architectural heritage of the time.
