Heritage classified

The private hotel located at 16 rue Bellon, facades and roofs, as well as the courtyard with its wall fence and monumental gate, the land right-of-way of the park comprising only the present garden portion with its fence walls, and the two entire interior stairs of the hotel, shown in the cadastre, section AH, parcel 100, as delimited on the plan annexed to the decree: inscription by order of 20 July 2021

Origin and history

The mansion of Rue Bellon, located in Senlis, was built around 1705 for Dame Marie de Saint Gobert, widow of Antoine Grondeau, squire and king's adviser. This building illustrates the classic sobriety of the late reign of Louis XIV, with a symmetrical structure, rigorous lines and a discreet decor. It is organized between a courtyard and a garden, reflecting the architectural cannons of the time.

In 1754, after the piercing of the Rue de la République, the new owner, Marie Anne Catherine de Saint Leu (widow of Nicolas Dufresne, lawyer and king's adviser), enlarged the garden by acquiring adjacent plots. It thus transforms the space into a park in the heart of the city. This hotel, marked by interior renovations in the 20th century, successively housed a girls' school, a court, and then a departmental social centre.

The garden, partially converted into public parking, preserves traces of its historical development. The hotel, its facades, its courtyard with its monumental gate, as well as the two interior staircases, were protected by a registration order in 2021. These elements reflect its heritage importance and functional evolution throughout the centuries.
