Origin and history
The private hotel in Clermont-Ferrand, in the Port district, bears witness to the architectural and social development of the city in the 17th century. This neighborhood, already marked by noble and bourgeois houses from the end of the Middle Ages, experienced a revival of activity after the transfer of the court of Aids in 1630. This decision stimulated the construction of new residences, including this hotel, considered one of the most prestigious in the city at the time.
The building is distinguished by its honorary staircase in Volvic stone, typical of the region, as well as its rooms preserving woodwork and fireplaces from the 17th and 18th centuries. Although partially modified, it preserved the original structural elements, as evidenced by the protections granted in 1989 to its staircase and two rooms with their interior decorations. These features make it a representative example of the Clermontian civil architecture of this period.
The location of the hotel, on 3 rue de l'Abbé-Lacoste, in an area historically linked to the aristocracy and the local bourgeoisie, reflects its past importance. His inscription in the title of Historic Monuments underscores his heritage value, while recalling the central role of Clermont-Ferrand as an administrative and cultural pole in Auvergne under the Ancien Régime.
