Origin and history

The Hotel dit Séguier, located at 16 rue Séguier in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, is a private hotel built between 1640 and 1644. Its architecture is based on a rigorous plan, combining a main home for owners and a second for rent, organised around a courtyard and a garden. The rooms, arranged in a thread, reflect the constructive principles of the era, mixing the severity of the facades and the functionality of the interior spaces.

In 1675, a wing was added south of the hotel, marking a significant first extension. The second major work campaign took place in 1755 under the direction of architect Maldent. This phase saw the construction of two pavilions on the street, the construction of a gate, as well as the modification of the stairwell of honor, supplemented by a lockhouse ramp. The main house body is then raised, while interior decorations from the middle of the eighteenth century, especially in three wooded rooms on the first floor, still exist today.

The ground floor apartment retains remarkable decorative elements, including top doors dating back to the years 1790-1800. The hotel has been partially protected since 2010, with an inscription covering facades, roofs, stairs, and two apartments on the first floor. These protections highlight the heritage value of a building that has evolved over the centuries, while preserving traces of Baroque and neoclassical eras.
