Hotel and its enclosure wall, as well as the façades and roofs of the 17th century house in return (see AE 13, 18 to 21): inscription by decree of 24 February 1994
Origin and history
Hotel Saint-Clair is a private hotel located in Guérande, in the Loire-Atlantique department, in the Pays de la Loire region. This monument consists of two buildings: the so-called Kerhué hotel, built in the seventeenth century, and the so-called Saint-Clair hotel, dating from the fourth quarter of the eighteenth century. These two buildings illustrate the civil architecture of the respective eras, with characteristics unique to each century.
Hotel Saint-Clair has been partially listed as a historical monument since 24 February 1994. This protection specifically concerns the hotel and its enclosure wall, as well as the façades and roofs of the 17th century house in return. The monument is now owned by a private company, and its exact address is 1 and 3 rue de Saint-Harmel, in Guérande.
The location of Hotel Saint-Clair, in the historic centre of Guérande, a city known for its medieval ramparts and architectural heritage, reinforces its historical interest. The town of Guérande, located in the Loire-Atlantique, was an important economic and administrative centre since the Middle Ages, and private hotels such as this one testify to the urban and social evolution of the region in the 17th and 18th centuries.
Available sources, including Wikipedia and the Merimée base, indicate that the Saint-Clair hotel is a representative example of the private hotels of this period in Brittany. Its inscription as a historic monument underscores its heritage value, although detailed information about its occupants or its original use is not specified in the sources consulted.
