Origin and history

Hotel Saint-Paul, also known as Hotel d'Achey, is a private hotel located at 11 Battant Street, in the Battant district of Besançon. This monument is distinguished by its architecture and its history linked to the local bourgeoisie. Its street façade, as well as the overhanging cover, were listed as historic monuments on January 13, 1938, highlighting their heritage value.

The monumental 17th-century dining room fireplace was a remarkable feature of the hotel. This fireplace, adorned with a plate of armored cast iron, was transferred to the Granvelle Palace in Besançon. It was listed as a historical monument on 26 January 1928, even before the front of the hotel was protected.

The building is part of Besançon's architectural heritage, a city marked by a rich urban history and emblematic civil buildings. Although little detailed information is available about its occupants or its construction, its inscription bears witness to its importance in the historical fabric of the city.
