Origin and history
The hotel Saint-Pern is a former mansion built in the 2nd quarter of the 18th century, located in the Malakoff - Saint-Donatien district of Nantes, on Malherbe Street. Although the original building has disappeared, its stone and tuft portal remains, integrated with a later construction. This baroque-style portal is distinguished by its slit-down windows, its tympanum decorated with two badges and a smiling head, reflecting the architectural elegance of the era.
Ranked a historic monument by decree of 2 July 1952, the gate is the only protected element of the hotel. The classification decision specifically concerns "the gate on street (including its stone entourage)", highlighting its heritage value. No information is available about the original owners or the precise use of the building, but its style suggests an aristocratic or bourgeois residence, typical of Nantes in the Enlightenment century.
Sources mention an approximate location (6/10 in precision according to Monumentum) and an address recorded in the Merimée base: 4 Malherbe Street, 44100 Nantes. The department, the Loire-Atlantique (code INSEE 44109), and the Pays de la Loire region oversee this heritage. There is no evidence of an opening to the public, a guided tour or a contemporary reuse of the site.
