Origin and history

The hotel of Turenne, located at 25 boulevard du Montparnasse in the 6th arrondissement of Paris, is one of the two Parisian hotels with this name. Unlike its homonym of the 3rd arrondissement (destroyed in the 19th century), it is still standing and was partially protected in 1928 for its facade on garden. Today a private residence, it bears witness to the architectural heritage of 17th century private hotels, although its exact period of construction is not specified in the available sources.

The Hôtel du boulevard du Montparnasse is sometimes named Hotel de Scarron, with reference to a historic appellation, but the sources do not detail the origin of this second name. Its inscription in historical monuments, by decree of 29 March 1928, concerns only its facade on garden, stressing its heritage interest limited to this architectural element. No information is provided about its original owners, its famous occupants, or its past use, unlike the other hotel in Turenne (3rd arrondissement), better documented.

It should be noted that Paris has several private hotels linked to military or aristocratic figures, such as the Viscount de Turenne, but the archives available do not allow for a direct link between the latter and the hotel in the 6th arrondissement. The confusion between the two hotels in Turenne (one destroyed, the other preserved) illustrates the complexity of the Parisian real estate history, where the names of the monuments can overlap without sharing the same history. The sources mention only its current status as private residence and partial protection.
