Origin and history
The house in 12 Place des Cordeliers in Dinan is a historical monument dating back to the 12th century. This building, located in the Côtes-d-Armor department in Brittany, is distinguished by its ancient architecture, typical of this medieval period. Its facades and roofs were officially protected by a registration order dated 4 December 1961, thus underlining its heritage importance.
Although the information available on its detailed history is limited, this type of medieval house often reflects the increasing urbanization of Breton cities in the Middle Ages. At that time, Dinan, a fortified city, played a strategic and commercial role in the region. The houses of this period generally served as houses for local merchants, artisans or notables, reflecting the social and economic life of the period.
Their preservation makes it possible today to better understand the architectural and urban evolution of medieval Brittany.
