Facade and roof on street: inscription by decree of 3 July 1947
Origin and history
The house at 8 rue Sainte-Catherine in Rodez is a historic monument, probably dating back to the 17th century. It is considered a vestige of an old inn for travellers, identifiable thanks to its distinctive architectural features. The ground floor has two large curved bays, accompanied by an ogival opening which could correspond to the old entrance door. These elements suggest a reception and passage function, typical of establishments located on medieval or modern traffic axes.
Upstairs, two large central-lined bays, divided by a vertical elevation, reinforce the architectural style of the era. The façade and the roof on the street were protected by an order of inscription for the Historical Monuments dated July 3, 1947, thus highlighting their heritage value. Although the sources do not specify the future uses of the building, its current state and its location in the city centre of Rodez make it a tangible testimony to urban history and to past housing practices.
The location of this monument, although documented (6 or 8 rue Sainte-Catherine), remains approximate according to the available databases, with an accuracy assessed as "passable" (note of 5/10). This minor geographical uncertainty, however, does not alter its historical interest, linked to both its architecture and its supposed role in welcoming travelers in Aveyron in the seventeenth century.
